It’s Oh So Quiet…

Ugh, hi guys!  Sorry for the long absence.  My week off turned into, well, obviously much longer than that because holy crap the third trimester has been kicking my ass!  I just couldn’t fit blogging into my busy schedule of work, fitful sleep, fatigue, depression, and occasionally puking/peeing myself.  (Oh, the wondrous miracle of life!)

Anyway, now that the year is winding down work wise, I should be able to at least blog my long overdue Station Eleven review and one more Cute of the Week before I start my six month maternity leave in earnest, in January.

Hope you’re all hanging in there, enjoying the holiday season, etc.  As a treat/apology for being gone so long, here’s Bjork:

Mean Maureen Takes A Week Off!

Hi all!  I am woefully behind with my book club book and balls deep (not appropriate or biologically accurate, but whatever!) in a book I’m trying to finish for National Novel Writing Month, so I’m taking the week off.   There will be no Movie (or TV) Monday, no Cute of the Week (HORRIFIED GASP!) and no Weekly Internet Round Up this week.  Hopefully by next week I’ll be all caught up and back on the blogging horse!  Huzzah!

And in closing, I leave you with the first image that comes up when you google the term “blogging horse.”

Mean Maureen’s Weekly Internet Round Up!

Malala rprior to meeting the DSG SG Meets Photo Opportunity: The Secretary-General and Ms. Malala Yousafzai Special Event: Interactive conversation to mark 500 Days of Action for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Participants: The Secretary-General; The President of the General Assembly 68th session; Malala Yousafzai, Education Advocate and Co-founder of the Malala Fund; Amy Robach, News Anchor with ABCÕs Good Morning America.

WOO HOO, IT’S FRIDAY!!!  I’m in a good mood this Friday because I am feeling pretty decent, pregnancy wise (finally), AND because I just started work on a new show.  (I work in reality tv post production, for those who don’t know.)  Anyway, I love the first week of a new show because it’s mostly watching footage and getting an idea of the cast members and the show – it’s a relaxing and fun time.  (Before the inevitable chaos ensues.)  So, I’m enjoying the calm before the storm and looking forward to finally being done unpacking our damn apartment this weekend.

But first, things!  From the internet!

I too, cannot stop reading these 1 star yelp reviews of National Parks.  (And, a related bonus from Outside magazine – a complaint that Yellowstone’s bears aren’t trained as well as they should be.)  GUYS, PEOPLE ARE DUMB.

Speaking of National Parks, Travel and Leisure has a list of the best “secret” ones.  (Not sure how secret they are, but they all sure look beautiful.)

From the realm of pure delight, Gawker has a series of delightful baboon stock footage that everyone should look at immediately.

And I don’t normally go in for cute little kid videos (I typically prefer my cute in animal form) but this British child learning that he’s going to be a big brother is freaking INSANELY ADORABLE.  It’s a little long, but worth it for the accent alone.  (Side note – how do I quickly immigrate to England so our baby can grow up with a British accent???)

Finally, it was National Women’s Equality Day this week and in honor of that, I’m posting the trailer for the upcoming documentary He Named Me Malala, about Malala Yousafzai, the incredibly inspiring and brave activist for women’s education who was shot in the head by the Taliban, but survived, and continues to devote her life toward bettering educational opportunities for every woman, everywhere.  She’s a real life superhero and I admire her so much.  I’ll be in line to see this movie the second it comes out in October.

And that’s it for this week, dear readers!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Sunday Not Quite Funday

helpme

Okay, okay, our situation is not QUITE this cluttered/insane. But probably only because we don’t have a garage.

Hi, dear readers!  There will be no long form blog post today because, believe it or not, I am STILL unpacking.  Turns out getting sick for 5 days in the middle of unpacking + husband and wife on opposite work schedules = I either sort this mess out this weekend while my husband is at work OR we die in some sort of terrible Hoarders-crushed-by-all-their-possessions disaster.  I’m halfway done, I think!  So that’s good, at least.  But I have to take a break to drop half a paycheck at Target and Lowe’s, so we’ll see where I end up after all that.

But anyway, hope you’re all having a delightful Sunday NOT assembling confusing furniture and figuring out where the hell to put all the crap you have somehow managed to collect over 34 years.

Until next week!

Apologies for the Pause in your Regularly Scheduled Blog Programming!

Technical-difficulties-LIAS

Okay, I’m not actually having any technical difficulties, nor am I a drunk camera operator, BUT I am have EXHAUSTION RELATED difficulties, and I love this Simpsons graphic, so here we are.  Anyway, there was no Long Read blog post this Sunday  there will be no Movie (or TV) Monday post today because… I am dead.

Fine, not dead, but dead tired.  Very slight difference. Turns out three days of moving when you’re pregnant is the equivalent of… I have no idea.  But it’s the most tired I have ever been.

But you might be saying, uh, Mean Maureen, couldn’t you have written a Movie (or TV) Monday blog post in the time it took you to write this explanation of why there isn’t a Movie (or TV) blog post?

And to that I say, WELL YES, FINE, BUT I’M ONLY REALIZING THAT NOW, SO IT’S TOO LATE.

Anyway, your regularly scheduled blogging will return on Wednesday, with a Cute of the Week!  Now, to get through the work day without falling asleep at my desk!

Mean Maureen’s Weekly Internet Round Up

Moving truck

Hi all!  Well, this will be a quick weekly wrap up for me because I’m moving this weekend!  Yes, moving and pregnant, just like I always dreamed!  Ha ha ha ha… I’m making jokes so as not to be stressed out about not being able to help as much as I’d like.  But!  I am an excellent bosser arounder and pointer to things, so don’t worry, my husband will be fine!  Also, we have barely any stuff because the apartment we’re moving from is so super duper tiny.  So recede, please, moving related stress!  I have vanquished thee with facts!

ANYWAY, says everyone who clicked on this blog post to find out about cool stuff on the internet, not the details of my moving adventures, GET ON WITH IT, MEAN.

Okay, okay!  Sheesh.  Here are this week’s interesting things I found!  STOP HARASSING ME.

First of all, I kind of want these cat mugs, as tribute to my very best pet investment.  (Though I will probably wait for them to go on sale.)

Also, since I’m having to enjoy the summer without alcohol (NOOOOOOOO, she screamed sadly) I’ve been getting pret-ty into mocktails.  Especially the slushy kind, now that I finally bought a blender.  Virgin margaritas, I am about to drink a lot of you!

In actual NEWS type news, a wing from missing flight MH370 was found on a remote island in the Indian Ocean.  Hopefully putting to rest some of the media’s more… outlandish (this is the nicest word I can come up with for this) scenarios.

And this week marked the 70 year anniversary of the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima.  Because of the anniversary, the New Yorker has released the full Hiroshima story written by John Hersey, first published in 1946.  I’m only about a third of the way through it and it is remarkable.  Highly recommend.

Finally, in much less depressing anniversaries, a New Jersey woman turned 110 and credits her remarkable endurance to taking a shot of whiskey and drinking three Miller High Lifes a day!  Wow!  Turns out when I was in my 20’s I was secretly working on my longevity!

Anyway, have a wonderful weekend, everybody.  May you sleep in and catch up on errands and fun.  And most importantly, may you not have to move in August!  *pity party of one*

Happy Sunday: Funny George Washington Meme Edition

Hi all!  Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July and that you’re now at home, nursing those hangovers and resting up for the week ahead.  (Or maybe you’re responsible and never even HAD a hangover!  #lifegoals)

Anyway, as for me, I’ve been super busy apartment hunting this weekend (yes, the most fun time of the year to move IS the hottest part of the summer, you’re right!) so in lieu of my general long form complaining or rambling Sunday blog post, I’m just gonna take it easy and keep the patriotic merriment of the weekend going with this collection of delightful George Washington memes.  Enjoy!
